Team Building Oriented Retreats in Portugal – A team of tech evangelists contacted us with the challenge of organising a 2 week-long corporate retreat with the aim of bringing everyone together for an immersive yoga & surf experience, combining a number of activities with the aim of strengthen bonds between the team members. Here’s a draft of what we organised for them:
Team Building Oriented Retreats
We set to develop an agenda that would balance between surfing early in the morning, yoga, strategy meetings, design sprints and outdoor team building oriented activities.
Work, Plan & Surf was the motto they wanted to live by while staying at Drifter Beach Lodge, though we’ve added a few extra food programming and team oriented workshops here in the area that granted an extra twist to the whole experience.
We’ve settled all the budget details with the person in charge, and it was time to get to have some fun while bringing everything together!
Upon Arrival – Breaking The Ice
After check-in, off we went for a welcome sunset party at Salty Beach Bar as means of breaking the ice, get to know the local environment with a smooth ocean breeze in the face.
Team Building Oriented Retreat – Week One
Pick up for surfing was defined to 8h00 so we could all take advantage of the best surfing conditions at the early hours of the day, still leaving plenty of time to get some work done throughout the day.
It was decided to go for surf every second day (Monday, Wednesday, Friday) with yoga sessions at the beach in between surfing days (Tuesday, Thursday). The feedback from everyone was really positive, as surfing everyday can drain a lot of physical energy, specially if you’re not doing some kind of sport on a regular basis. Our Yoga sessions act as a stretch exercise to help the body to recover and gain elasticity.
Friday’s Family BBQ!
On Friday we’ve organised a spontaneous fish barbecue dinner for everyone at the backyard with drinks and healthy desserts (we think they liked it) to finish off the week in a good vibe and plan the weekend ahead.
Time flies when everyone’s having a good time. For the first weekend we’ve organised a bread-making workshop at an 1800’s windmill located on top of a mountain range nearby – a remote place with a few inhabitants that still live by the Portuguese traditional way.
Everyone could get their hands dirty with bread dough and by the time the bread was finally placed to bake in a wood-fired oven, a banquet of tasty foods and wines was waiting at the bistro’s next door.
Team Building Oriented Retreats – Week Two
Throughout the year, depending on the season our range of activities diversifies with different coastal-side activities, this time we went to spend a day at Nazaré to watch the Nazaré Tow Challenge: a giant surf event with a waiting period from the 1st of November to the 31st of March.
The confirmation of the day of this tournament is only made a few days in advance, when a good forecast is confirmed that will guarantee mountain-size waves!
📢 All working activities cancelled for Monday 📢
… and off we went to spend the day at Nazaré to watch some epic surfing:
After a memorable day watching an amazing show of giant surf, was time to head back and stick to the program.
Week Two – The Weekend
Another week of hard work in between surf and yoga sessions went by and it was time for the goodbye celebration moment aiming to honor a successful 2 week team retreat in Portugal – we prepared a rooftop terrace at one of our beach-front villas and hosted a sunset party to show gratitude and say BIG Thank You to our new friends!
